The Derry Trojan Baseball team was well represented during the All Section Voting, held this month by the Section Coaches. Five Trojans were named to the teams. Senior Jordan Carnathan, Junior Josh Mroskey, and Sophomore Scott Dixon were named to the first team, and Junior's Tony Patton and Nathan Kohuth were named to the second team honorable mention.
Carnathan, who had to revert to a designated hitter after early season arm problems, received all first place votes. His section batting average was .395, and Jordan belted out 17 hits including five doubles, scored 11 runs, and drove in 14 runs. He also walked 13 times and struck out just once. His on base percentage was a whopping .538.
Mroskey, who did not start for the Trojans as a Sophomore, had a stellar Junior season batting .383 in section play, with 20 runs scored. He finished with 18 hits, had an on base percentage of .455, and stole 7 bases. Mroskey committed just one outfield error all season.
Dixon was named to the first team Outfield, and also received enough votes to be named as a first team pitcher. The coaches decided to go with where he had the most top three votes, as you can only be named to the team at one position. Dixon batted .408 in the section with 20 hits, including 7 doubles and 2 triples. He also added 22 RBI, had an on base percentage of .474 and swiped five bases. He also had a solid year on the mound finishing with a 4-2 section mark, a 2.35 ERA, and finished with 43 strikeouts and just 12 walks in 38 and 2/3 innings.
Kohuth was named to the honorable mention outfield. He played very well defensively in centerfield, and batted .391 in the section, adding 18 hits including 5 doubles and a triple. Nathan had an on base percentage of .417, and a slugging percentage of .553. He added 12 section RBI and also stole four bases.
Patton certainly made some of the biggest strides during his Junior season. The right-hander finished with an ERA of 1.97 in section play. He was 4-1 and pitched a no-hitter in a five inning Trojan win against Yough, and tossed a one-hitter in a 12-2 five inning win against Uniontown. Patton struck out 25 and walked just 9 in 22 innings of work. He also had a solid year at the plate batting .298 with 12 RBI and 5 doubles.
Congratulations to these five players for their accomplishments.
Congratulations to Trojan Senior's Jordan Carnathan, Jordan Hope and Pat Meloy, who were recently presented with Trojan team awards. Carnathan received the Team MVP Award voted on by his teammates. Hope was the receipient of the Ned Cecchini Scholarship Award, and Meloy was the winner of the Derry Area Scholar Athlete Award.
